Tech Stingers Softball Team Raising Funds

Florence-Darlington Technical College's Athletics Department has hired a new women's softball head coach.  Coach Heber Watson of Hartsville accepted the head coach's job Monday, March 21, 2005.

Coach Watson replaces volunteer head coach Shaun Marsh. More importantly for the College, Marsh will be able to devote his full time efforts to his position as an Instructional Support Technician.

Tech Athletics Director Carmen Carter praised Marsh, who volunteered his time to help organize and field the College's entry into women's intercollegiate sports in 2005. The women Stingers began their first season of regular play in February in the National Junior College Athletic Association's District 10.

Carter said, "The Athletics Department and the student athletes appreciate Coach Marsh's gracious gift of his time and talents to organize a brand new team." Carter also praised volunteer assistant coach Robert Aun Sr., who will remain with the team.

The women Tech Stinger's new head coach assumes his new duties with an impressive resume. Coach Watson began his career in 1967 coaching Dixie Youth baseball before moving to women's fast pitch softball in 1973. Coach Watson organized and managed the first Hartsville girl's softball program in Hartsville, which is one of the area's oldest associations in the Palmetto State.
