Tech Stingers Play Historic First Games

Florence-Darlington Technical College Athletics made a historic debut this past weekend with both men's baseball and women's softball teams taking to their home fields for the first games of the Tech Stinger's inaugural seasons. The men launched their season at Florence's American Legion Field with a three game series against Tennessee's Walters State Community College, Saturday, February 12, 2005. The Senators are former region champs and won all three games against the younger Tech Stingers men. Head Coach Curtis Hudson told the media, "I'd rather go 0-3 against a quality team than 3-0 against a non-quality team, because we have to get better." Final scores were 13-4, 7-0 and 12-6.

The Tech Stinger women faced another two year college powerhouse in the Spartanburg Methodist College Pioneers, Sunday, February 13, 2005 at the Stinger's home field at Freedom Florence. SMC won the double header, 6-0 in the first game and 12-2 in the second. Assistant Coach Robert Aun was proud of the student athletes. " They did a great job overall, since this was the first time they had played college ball." Aun also praised the Stinger's opponents saying, "They are one of the best programs in the region and in the country!"

The Stinger men will play this weekend at Legion Field with a two game stand against Potomac State. The Stinger women are away this weekend for a double header at Erskine College.
