Tech Stingers Hit the Road For The First Time

The Florence-Darlington Tech Stingers hit the road this weekend for their first away games in their inaugural seasons. The women Stingers came up short in doubleheaders against in state rival, Aiken Tech at their home field of Freedom Florence and lost on the road to St. Andrews this weekend.

It wasn’t all bad news for the women. Christy Floyd got her first career homerun in the 10-2 loss to St. Andrews. The Stingers face Claflin University for a home field double header on Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at 2 p.m.

On Tuesday, the men Stingers were victorious against Salem Community College 6-5. The men took to the road this weekend for a five game trip against Danville and Rockingham Community Colleges. The Stingers won against Danville, Friday night 9-4 with Julis Dixon and Sterling Dye providing batting muscle for Tech. Pitcher Drew Cohen threw his first season win against Danville. Jeremy Epperson, who leads the team in hits, went 3 -5 with two RBI.

On Saturday, the men split their first doubleheader with Rockingham defeating the Eagles 21-9, but losing the second game, 2-1. On Sunday, the men repeated Saturday's games winning the first and losing the second. The men are scheduled to play Danville again this Wednesday and Thursday, March 16 and 17, 2005 with game times at 5 p.m. Wednesday, and 4 p.m. Thursday at Florence Legion Field.
