The Florence-Darlington Technical College Stingers' Baseball team will play home games at the Old Cormell Field, and Tournaments at the new Clifford S. Cormell Field at Sparrow Stadium in 2013.
Old Cormell Field
Named in honor of Florence businessman, Clifford S. Cormell, Cormell Field was officially dedicated on March 5, 1974.
When opened, The ‘Cliff’ was one of only a handful of collegiate facilities with an Astroturf infield. The Astroturf was replaced by natural grass in the 1990’s.
The dimensions of the field are 320 to left and right fields, 365 to the power alleys, and 400 to center center field. Seating accommodates 400 spectators with standing room for up to 1,000.
Opened in the spring of 2012 at Francis Marion University, the R. Gerald Griffin Athletic Complex is the new home for Patriot Baseball -- the new Clifford S. Cormell Field at Sparrow Stadium. The field is part of the $11.1 million west campus athletic complex that also includes a lake, fieldhouse, softball stadium, and soccer stadium.
The baseball facility consists of 800 seats with capacity of 1,755, and includes concession area, restrooms, VIP room, and pressbox.
The field dimensions are 330 feet down each line, 375 feet to the power alleys, and 400 feet to center center, with approximately the same foul territory as at old Cormell Field. Bullpens are located down each foul line, and the first phase of the field house is located adjacent to the bullpen down the right field line.
Old FMU Softball Field
The Old FMU Softball Field features a natural grass surface with dimensions of 190 feet in left and right field, and 220 feet in center field. The field has seating for approximately 200 spectators.
